Akon hits number 1 with Don’t Matter

The Top 10 songs in the US has been heating up over the last couple of weeks and the inevitable has happened as Akon’s “Don’t Matter” hit number 1 on this week’s BILLBOARD HOT 100 chart. Congratulations to him in taking the spot from Fergie’s “Glamorous.”

Akon lands the number 1 spot on this week's chart due to being the most played song on Radio in the US, and holding the number 3 position on BILLBOARD’s HOT DIGITAL SONGS with 126,583 downloads. Despite Beyonce and Shakira’s “Beautiful Liar” dominating downloads at the number 1 position, Akon may managed to hold on to the number one spot due to significantly higher Radio play than Beautiful Liar.

Another huge contender next week will be Akon produced track “Sweet Escape,” by Gwen Stefani featuring Akon, as American Idol and Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards performances is sure to boost Sales for “Sweet Escape,” and as well as “Don’t Matter.” Akon’s “I Wanna Love You,” and “Smack That,” continue to hold on to the Top 50 on the Hot 100 coming it at number 40 and 42 respectively.
