Hip-hop and R&B star Akon will hold a rare one-night only show in Seoul on Tuesday, as part of his ``Konvicted world tour.'' ``Akon Special Live in Seoul'' will be held at Club Circle in Cheongdam-dong in southern Seoul at 9 p.m.
Akon is a Grammy-nominated Senegalese-American singer, songwriter and producer, known for his hit songs ``Smack That," and ``The Sweet Escape." He has collaborated with the music industry's top stars such as Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Gwen Stefani and T-Pain.
A son of a jazz percussionist, Akon was born in St. Louis, Missouri but shuttled between Senegal and the U.S.
He first gained attention when he released his album ``Trouble'' in 2004. The hit single ``Locked Up'' was inspired by his experiences in jail. Other hit songs from the album include ``Lonely," ``Belly Dancer (Bananza)," ``Pot of Gold," and ``Ghetto."
Akon's smooth vocals and his unique sound, combining Jamaican, African and American beats, have earned him many fans from around the world. His second album ``Konvicted" had global sales of over 3 million. ``I Wanna Love You," featuring Snoop Dogg, shot to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, while ``Smack That," featuring Eminem, was nominated for Best Rap Collaboration at the 49th Annual Grammy Awards last December.
Akon is also the founder of Konvict Muzik and Kon Live Distribution, which recently signed former TLC member Chilli. Aside from his music, Akon also launched his own clothing line Konvict Clothing featuring urban street fashion. His charity Konfidence Foundation helps underprivileged children in Africa.
This year, Akon was embroiled in controversy after he was filmed dancing scandalously with a 14-year old girl in a club in Trinidad. Widespread criticism followed, even prompting a sponsor to withdraw support for his tour with Stefani. Since then, he has apologized for the incident through a new song "Sorry, Blame It On Me,"
Tickets for Akon's show at Club Circle are priced at 100,000 won for standing area. There are special VIP tickets for 200,000 won, which include food, drinks and a special VIP lounge area. However, there are only 40 VIP tickets to be sold, on a first-come, first-serve basis.
