Investigations into Alleyne/Akon matter closed

Police have closed the book on investigations into the Danah Alleyne/Akon matter, Deputy Commissioner of Police Winston Cooper says.

"The matter seems to be a stalemate, as the people who are responsible have not come forward to support the police in any way. I would say it is completed," Cooper said during a weekly press conference at Police Headquarters in Port of Spain on Monday.

For the past three weeks, police have been investigating the dirty dancing incident involving 15-year-old Danah Alleyne and the R&B/hip-hop singer which took place at the Zen nightclub on April 12.

Police even raided the nightclub during their investigations into the incident.

A video clip of the act was posted on YouTube-Broadcast Yourself website, but later pulled after a notification to YouTube by Universal Music Group.

The clip sparked a national debate and who should be blamed for the singer's raunchy dancing with Alleyne.

Pastor Dave Alleyne has defended his daughter's action, saying she was taken advantage of. The teenager told the Express she was sorry for her actions. Club owner Johnny Soong also defended his business and also apologised to Danah and her family.

The debate also crossed international waters with popular US blogs, gossip and entertainment news websites highlighting it.

Last Friday, Verizon Wireless pulled its sponsorship of Akon, in a move believed to have been sparked by the worldwide negative publicity it attracted.

Jim Gerace, Corporate Strategy, Policy Manager at Verizon, confirmed their partnership with Akon was ended when the Express contacted him, but would not confirm it was because of the incident.

According to a Fox News report, the partnership was ended because of the star's recent simulated sex dance with Alleyne at the Zen nightclub.
