Fans who await the anticipated solo album of TLC singer; Rozonda Chilli Thomas, got yet another taste last week, as “Straight Jack,” featuring rapper Missy Elliot leaked unto the internet.

The track’s beat is undoubtedly on fire and was definitely made for the clubs however; the downfall of the song simply comes down to lackluster lyrics and poor delivery. Chilli is going “Straight Jack,” great concept; however the idea is not fleshed out completely. Thus, the meaning of the song will go over the heads of most, in which should have been fleshed out in the verses. The payoff of the track ends up being Missy Elliot’s rap, which helps to flesh out the “straight jack,” metaphor in which adds to the story being told in verse two. Despite this, the chorus and the beat, is addictive.

The track was done before Rozonda signed to Akon’s Konvict Muzik Label, and was once rumored to be her first single. Most likely that is no longer the case, and rightfully so. If this track was ever released as Chilli’s first single, it would be a great risk. While the record may have some headway on Rhythmic Radio stations around the country, it would fail on Top 40 stations, though we’ve seen just as campy songs as Gwen Stefani's “Holler back Girl,” and Fergie’s London Bridge has success.

Chilli’s rap seems to be getting the most scrutiny by online visitors, however the verse really is very her personality, and most likely wasn’t done to be taken that seriously.
