The Top 10 songs in the US has been heating up over the last couple of weeks and the inevitable has happened as Akon’s “Don’t Matter” hit number 1 on this week’s BILLBOARD HOT 100 chart. Congratulations to him in taking the spot from Fergie’s “Glamorous.”

Akon lands the number 1 spot on this week's chart due to being the most played song on Radio in the US, and holding the number 3 position on BILLBOARD’s HOT DIGITAL SONGS with 126,583 downloads. Despite Beyonce and Shakira’s “Beautiful Liar” dominating downloads at the number 1 position, Akon may managed to hold on to the number one spot due to significantly higher Radio play than Beautiful Liar.

Akon appears on the April 2007 Vibe Magazine cover; don’t forget to pick up your copy, in which the article “The Kon Artist,” serves as a great biography. Akon touches on touchy subjects such as, the color of his skin, saying “What confused me the most was never the white kids. Even today, I don’t understand-a little black kid teasing me for being blacker than him. What’s the logic in that?” taking reader back to his childhood, however even today ignorant comment can be heard.

Fans who await the anticipated solo album of TLC singer; Rozonda Chilli Thomas, got yet another taste last week, as “Straight Jack,” featuring rapper Missy Elliot leaked unto the internet.


The track’s beat is undoubtedly on fire and was definitely made for the clubs however; the downfall of the song simply comes down to lackluster lyrics and poor delivery. Chilli is going “Straight Jack,” great concept; however the idea is not fleshed out completely. Thus, the meaning of the song will go over the heads of most, in which should have been fleshed out in the verses. The payoff of the track ends up being Missy Elliot’s rap, which helps to flesh out the “straight jack,” metaphor in which adds to the story being told in verse two. Despite this, the chorus and the beat, is addictive.

Happy Valentine’s Day fans!

Now, on to some Akon updates...

Don’t Matter’s video made its debut on TRL and 106&Park last Thursday, and has been leaping up the airplay and download charts. Don’t Matter will chart on Billboard’s Hot 100 at number 11 this week while Konvicted moves from number 6 to number 4 selling 65,000 copies. That’s a 15 percent increase in album sales, which is great. While Akon did not have any impact at the Grammy’s he spent a lot of time promoting “Don’t Matter,” and his tour with Gwen Stefani, including a huge performance at Clive David’s Pre-Grammy Party.
